I strongly recommend visiting Salzburg!! I took the train from Vienna for only 20 euros!

It is truly beautiful, small, cozy, and close to some very beautiful lakes/nature. I stayed 3 nights, however, I would recommend longer to have time for day trips to Königssee, Halstatt, and Wolfgangsee lake.

WHAT TO DO
  • Mirabell Palace/Gardens

  • Classical music concert at Mirabell Palace.

  • Mozart´s Birthplace - museum.

  • Salzburg Cathedral

  • Chapter Square

  • Fortress Hohensalzburg - I didn´t have time to go inside.

  • Kapuzinerberg - a hill, beautiful during sunset.

  • Daytrips. Köningssee, Halstatt and St Gilgen (Wolfgangsee lake).

Other things to do:

  • Visit a Mozart Shop

  • Mozartplatz - You can find the Mozart statue here.

  • Watch the movie "The Sound of Music"

  • Walk around the city.

Chapter Square

Chapter Square/kapitelplatz. Very close to the Cathedral.

Mozart´s Museum

Mozart´s Birthplace/Museum.

Salzburg Cathedral

Salzburg Cathedral. It was the most beautiful Cathedral I´ve ever visited. Let me know what you guys think!

Mirabell Palace

Classical concert at Mirabell Palace.

Mirabell gardens

Mirabell gardens. So pretty! I love all the sculptures and flowers.

Mozart shop

Mozart shop. I had a very funny experience there, because they had on a "dirty" pop song in the shop, and I was expecting classical music:P Let me know what music they will have on when u go there!

Just walk around the city & enjoy!

I loved just walking around the small city.

Pretty!

Day trips - Which daytrips should you make, Königssee, Halstatt or to St Gilgen?

Which daytrips should you make, Königssee, Halstatt or to St Gilgen (Wolfgangsee lake)?

I would recommend looking up Königssee. It was the most beautiful nature place I´ve seen.

I had actually planned to visit Halstatt, but I only had one day left in Salzburg. I was recommended to visit Königssee instead because it´s not as crowded. If I had another day I would have visited Halstatt too.

In St Gilgen, you will find the beautiful Wolfgangsee lake. It´s more of a place where I would just sit down next to the lake and read a book. The lake itself was very beautiful, however, the surroundings were housing area, etc. Therefore, I preferred walking toward Königssee, because I was surrounded by beautiful nature at all times.

I would only recommend Wolfgangsee lake if you have enough days.

Summary: Plan a visit to Königssee! If you have time you can add a day trip to Halstatt and St Gilgen (Wolfgangsee lake).

Café Tomaselli

It´s said that Mozart used to visit this café ;)

Accomodation - Yoho International Youth Hostel

I stayed at Yoho International Youth Hostel. I really liked it and recommend it! It had a very international environment and the staffs were very helpful. They had gathered information on how to do certain day trips from Salzburg, so I would recommend asking the reception for help if you are going on day trips!

They show the movie "The Sound of Music" every evening as it was shot in Salzburg.

Also, they have a restaurant, where I mostly ate my breakfast and dinner :)

Enjoy your stay!

Reach out to me if you have any questions!/Diana
