Königssee is a perfect day trip to make from Salzburg, Austria. Below I´ve given my recommendations on how to get here, how much it costs, and advice on what to think about before going.

I actually wasn´t planning to visit Königssee, I was recommended it by a friend I met in the hostel in Salzburg. :)

How do get from Salzburg to Königssee

From Salzburg - Bus 840 to Berchtesgarden HBF. Change to Bus 841 to Königssee (Jennerbahn).

You take 2 buses in total. The first bus 840 (from Salzburg to Berchtesgarden) takes around 45 minutes and second bus 841 (from Berchtesgarden HBF to Königssee) takes 15 minutes.

You can for instance take bus 840 from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof or Mirabellplatz.

Once you arrive at Königssee

There is a boat to take to Salet and St. Bartholomä. I arrived around noon to Königssee and therefore I only had time to visit Salet, where you will walk around the beautiful lake and come to a waterfall. If you have time, I would recommend visiting both!

Taking the boat to Saltes will bring you to this beautiful scenery.

St. Bartholomä. I only passed by it with the boat. If you have time you should visit both places!

Advice for you daytrip
  • Leave early! Check beforehand when the first busses leave Salzburg. It´s usually every hour between buses.

  • Get back in time. The last bus from Berchtesgarden was around 6 pm! Therefore it´s important to leave Königssee in good time.

  • Buy a day-ticket from the bus driver, it will become cheaper than buying single bus tickets.

  • It´s nice to maybe bring some snacks/sandwiches. Maybe even swimsuit if you like swimming.

Costs
  • Day tickets for the bus. Around 14 euros.

  • Boat to Saltes - Adult 19,50 euros. OR Visiting both Salet and St. Bartholomä: around 21 euros.

Total cost for all buses and boat trips = 35 euros.

Enjoy your daytrip! Let me know how it goes!//Diana
