I love classical music, and therefore Vienna is a good choice!

I took the train from Prague to Vienna for 15€ and stayed for 3 nights.

Stadtpark.

WHAT TO DO

Many alternatives, but if you like classical music you should definitely consider going to a concert. Some of the places mentioned below can also be visited by only passing by it, no need to go inside if you don´t have much time.

  • Listen to classical music/Opera at Musikverein or Opera house!!

  • Austrian National Library

  • The Hofeburg

  • St. Stephen´s Cathedral

  • St. Peter´s church

  • Belvedere Palace - Gustav Klimt´s art, such as the kiss painting.

  • Schönbrunn Palace

  • Stadtpark - (if you feel like visiting a park)

  • Rathaus- City hall.

  • Hunderwasser house

  • Kunst haus

  • University of Vienna

Musikverein

Musikverein - a MOST for music lovers. I watched Bruno Walter Symphony Orchestra. María Duenas Fernandéz was the violinist, 16 years old!! She was amazing. I had a hard time holding my tears back while she was playing...

Austrian National Library

Austrian National Library. I really recommend buying a ticket to go inside! It´s quite small, but I loved it!!

St. Stephen´s Cathedral

St. Stephen´s Cathedral. Beautiful roof!I just passed by.

St. Peter´s church

St. Peter´s church. I just walked by. I like that most buildings are so white and clean in Vienna.

Schönbrunn Palace

Schönbrunn Palace. Many people might love this place. However, I would say it depends on if you like to see palaces/gardens or not and how much time you have. It´s a half-day activity and you can have a picnic there if you like!

Belvedere Palace

Belvedere Palace! I really liked it!! Just next door was the famous kiss painting by Gustav Klimt. I was more a fan of the fun sculptures around the museum :P

Hunderwasser house

Hundertwasser house. The coolest building! I love it!!

University of Vienna

The University of Vienna. Very pretty place. Don´t forget to check out their library if you pass by!

Other things to do
  • Buy Mozart Chocolate for gifts or for yourself ;)

  • Look out for music festivals. When I was there in June, there was a screen close to Musikverein (closer to Karlskirche church actually) that was showing the concerts inside Musikverein).

  • Albertina steps for a picture- I would recommend it if you happen to be in the area.

  • Free walking tour.

RESTAURANTS
  • Naschmarkt

  • Reinthaler’s beist

  • Hannes

  • Café central

Traditional Food
  • Schnitzel

  • Frittatensuppe - Sliced Crepes in the soup.

  • Schweinsbraten

  • Hühner Cordon Bleu

  • Goulash- it was a bit different than the one in Prague!

Eating Schnitzel is a good idea to do in Vienna!

Reinthaler’s beist. It was in the city center and I really liked it! We ordered Schnitzel, Frittatensuppe, Schweinsbraten and Hühner Cordon Bleu.

It was so interesting to see and try Frittatensuppe. It´s sliced crepes in soup.

Goulash at Hannes. The restaurant (and also bar) is close to Naschmarkt.

Pastry

Apple Strudel with vanilla sauce at Café central.

Accomodation

I lived at Wombat´s Vienna Naschmarket Hostel as it had good reviews. It all depends on your preferences. Myself, as a solo traveller, wasn´t a big fan of it as they didn´t have many activities organized, it´s a big hostel, and the staff wasn´t experienced to give you any recommendations. However, I was lucky to have a very nice roommate and we became good friends.

On the other side, I would recommend this hostel if you are traveling with friends. It´s clean and feels more like a hotel. The downside is the social part.

Let me know if you have any questions! :)//Diana
